Candidate Candor

Not sure how you all feel, but me personally, I'm terrified of this woman getting into office. Although, I don't know what's scarier, her being President, or the yahoo's who'll vote for her just b/c she's a woman and not because they truly believe in her!

If someone is voting for Hillary JUST because she is a woman, well, they are mistaken for doing so. In the end, don't let that fact get in the way of the person.

To imply that is to imply that it matters, which it shouldn't.

Well, if she gets the democratic nomination, I will be voting for her. And not because she is a woman.

I know I'm no political scholar by any means, but I definitely wouldn't vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. Yet, I hear all the time that people WILL be voting for her based solely on her gender. That's just crazy!!

Emily, I am so glad to hear that you're not voting for her just because she is a woman! I am interested though in hearing what makes Hillary the ideal candidate for you (or for anyone else).

She isn't my ideal candidate but I am a democrat and tend to vote that way. I can't honestly think of when I have voted republican. Why? Because democrats most closely align with my personal beliefs. I am definitely not liberal, I am quite moderate, and even fiscally conservative...

I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. I think that probably more people wouldn't vote her just because she is a woman than would.

And out of curiosity, what specifically do you find "scary" about her?

I don't vote, I know I know I shouldn't have any input but shut up haha
I would vote for Hilary for sure, I think she could actually do the job though not because she's a woman. You can tell the other candidates know she has a lead because they are ALL taking cheap shots at her.

There are so many things about her politics that scare me, but to name a couple things....

1. The idea of "Universal Healthcare" doesn't sit well with me. There are countries who have it now and will tell you that they do not like it. I've heard of a couple in Canada who lost their son b/c he died before he was scheduled for a surgery that would have been done immediately here in the US. And when the husband got deathly ill, they came to the US for treatment for fear he'd die as well before he could get treatment.

2. Hillary has been linked to somewhat shady characters. Norman Hsu to name one. I don't believe that she had no idea he was wanted on charges of grand theft for 15 years! And the only reason she's giving the money back or to charity is b/c he was caught.

3. Lastly, I don't believe she is an honest and moral person. I think she only lets us see and hear the side of her that appeals to us.

I hate to disagree with you Emily, but I feel that a lot of people will punch that hole beside Hillary's name just because she is a woman and nothing else.

DG - I'm not sure what the solution for our health care system is, but it sucks right now, and something should be done to fix it. As for your other comments about her, I think you could unfortunately say those things about any politician. It seems like there has to be something fundamentally wrong with someone to have them actually want to take on the position of President of the United States...

Oh, and I don't see her winning, and the main reason for that is because she is a woman. I just don't think enough people in this country are ready for that. I do believe she'll win the nomination though. We'll see what happens, because I don't have a clue who the republican candidate will be.

I'm not sure who I'll be voting for--they're all qualified. I'm ready for someone to clean up the White House! Hillary doesn't scare me. Rather it's the Republican party and the religious right. If she caters to their needs, then I'll be giving my vote to someone else.

Universal Healthcare scares you? I hate to break it to you but it is a necessary step. How many millions of people in this country don't have healthcare? THAT should scare you. I am so not a fan of your right and ability to heathcare being tied to your employer. That seems wrong. There is no perfect solution to healthcare that is perfect. I think if you actually sit down and spend some time looking at the healthcare issue, it is pretty clear that we must do something.

And yes, I do disagree with you that being a woman is somehow her golden ticket. Kudos to you for feeling like this country is that progressive because I think that would be really positive if it was. But, I don't think it is. I am personally really conflicted on the gender issue. I want a Democrat back in the White House so hopefully this catastrohphic mess that has been created during this administration can be cleaned up. I am very wary as to whether or not Hillary can win the national election because she is a woman.

Emily, I don't think Universal Healthcare is the solution. The percentage of people in the US who don't have coverage is less than 15%. And most of that are males ages 18-24. So, perhaps insurance companies should look into allowing parents to keep their children on their policies until then instead of kicking them off at the age of 18 (or 21 which was my case). I went years without insurance b/c my jobs didn't provide it. So, health care and employers aren't mutually exclusive. Actually, anyone can get their own policy if they'd like.

I do agree that something should be done about the health care system, but not making it universal. Too many countries have shown that it just doesn't work and isn't effective. I come from a medical background so I know that there are plenty of programs out there for those who do not have insurance and who also have low income. However, you can't make people use it. Plus, if you don't have insurance and have to go to the hospital, if you talk to them, they will work with you on the costs by giving you the rate they would have charged an insurance company versus the full amount. They will also set up payment plans. I just don't see how it's the gov't's responsibility to provide health care, baby bonds, 401K matches, savings accounts, etc. When are we going to take personal responsibility for our actions instead of blaming everyone else for our misfortunes?

I guess I've just been turned off by the gov't getting involved with health care when I've seen A LOT of people stroll into the doctor's office wearing expensive jewelry and clothes, yet present their MEDICAID card and say they're unemployed. All the while, I'm struggling to make ends meet, finish school and just survive.

With that being said, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. And aren't we lucky to live in a country where we're free to have differing opinions?
